35 Lakers Earn USTFCCCA All-American Honors

ALLENDALE, Mich. -  The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named 35 Lakers to the All-American list on Tuesday, May 31. First-Team USTFCCCA All-American honors are awarded to athletes who finish among the top-eight in their respective events – including as a member of a relay team – at the outdoor championship meet. Second-team selections are given to those athletes who finished in spots Nos. 9-12 in individual events. Ninth and tenth-place relay teams also earned the distinction. The Laker men earned 22 honors, including 18 First Team All-Americans. The women's team earned 12 First Team honors, and one Second Team. 

NCAA DII National Champions Judith Essemiah, Elli Kimes, and Brandon Miller received First-Team All-American honors. Essemiah won the women's hammer throw with a distance of 63.31m. Clearing 4.25m, Kimes won the women's pole vault in a jump off verse Virgi Scardanzan of Washburn. Brandon Miller won the 200m and broke the outdoor school-record with a time of 20.20. Miller won three First-Team All-American honors; 200m, 4x100m Relay, and 4x400m Relay.

Isaac Harding and Tanner Chada claimed two First-Team All-American honors. Harding placed fourth in the 10,000m and sixth in the 5000m, Chada placed sixth (10,000m) and fourth (5000m). Distance runner, Jessica Gockley earned two honors on the women's side in the 5000m and 10,000m. Gockley finished fifth in the 10,000m and seventh in the 5000m. 

Emma Richards also took home two top-eight finishes in both the women's shot put and discus throw. Richards placed fourth in shot put and fifth in discus throw.  

The Laker women ended the 2022 Outdoor season finishing second at the National Championships, the men's team finished third.Grand Valley earned 39 All-American honors in the Indoor Season, closing out the 2021-22 year with a total of 74 USTFCCCA All-Americans in Track and Field.
