GVSU Captures 28th GLIAC Presidents' Cup All-Sports Trophy

The Lakers have won 23 consecutive titles

Grand Valley State captured the 2021-22 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Presidents' Cup Trophy, the all-sports trophy awarded at the end of the year to the conference member that demonstrates general excellence in all sports, for the 23rd consecutive year the GLIAC announced Tuesday (May 31). GVSU has won every Presidents' Cup Trophy since the 1998-99 athletic year and has now captured the Presidents' Cup Trophy 28 times in school history.
 
"We are humbled and proud to capture the 2021-22 Presidents' Trophy," said Director of Athletics Keri Becker. "The GLIAC is an outstanding conference with a rich tradition of excellence in every sport so it is an incredible feat to win this trophy," added Becker. 

Grand Valley State scored a dominating 154.5 points, well ahead of second place Saginaw Valley State (108.5), third place Wayne State (102.0), fourth place Davenport (95.0) and fifth place Ferris State (91.5). The Lakers claimed 13 GLIAC titles during the 2021-22 campaign, with the women scoring 91.0 points and the men 63.5. The standings are based on final regular season standings except for the following sports, which are based on conference tournament finish: cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track & field and swimming and diving.

6. Northwood – 82.0
7. Michigan Tech – 71.0
8. Northern Michigan – 65.5
9. Parkside – 55.0
10. Purdue-Northwest – 33.0
11. Lake Superior State – 31.0

Grand Valley State won women's GLIAC championships in cross country, soccer, indoor track & field, basketball, golf, softball, lacrosse, outdoor track & field and tennis, while capturing men's titles in cross country, swimming & diving, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field.

In addition to winning every Presidents' Trophy from 1998-99 to 2021-22, GVSU also notched the all-sports trophy in 1978-79, 1977-78, 1974-75, 1973-74, and 1972-73.
