Logan and Shaw earn NCBWA All-Region First Team Honors; Five Lakers earn honors

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced DII Midwest All-Region honors. Five Lakers earned honors with sophomore 1B Nathan Logan and senior RP Nick Shaw earning First Team All-Region honors. Junior CF Spencer Nelson earned Second Team honors, while senior SS Christian Faust and LF Kyle Nott were honorable mention selections.
 
Shaw ranks fourth in the nation and led the GLIAC in saves with 11, allowing just one earned run in his first 16 outings of the year. He tallied a 1.50 ERA in 18 appearances and 24.0 innings of work with 41 strikeouts and three walks. He ranks second nationally with a 13.6-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and opponents are hitting just .174 with two extra-base hits. Shaw was a First-Team All-GLIAC performer during his final campaign with the Lakers. Logan led the GLIAC, ranks sixth nationally and set the GVSU single-season, school-record with 24 doubles. In addition, he led the GLIAC with a .708 slugging percentage and ranks second in the GLIAC with 10 home runs. Logan, who led the squad in hits with 73 and batting average (.395), recorded 15 multi-RBI games, drove in 49 runs and has reached base in 45 of the 50 games this season. 
 
Nelson also ranked among the leaders in the GLIAC offensively, hitting .325 with 67 hits, 17 doubles, eight home runs and six triples. Nelson ranked second on the squad with 20 multi-hit games, recorded a season-best 13-game hitting streak, reached base in 43-of-50 games and had a perfect fielding percentage. Faust hit .314 with 61 hits, a team-best 53 runs scored, 15 doubles, two triples and seven home runs. He recorded 18 multi-hit games, 12 multi-RBI games and ranked second in the GLIAC with 54 RBI. Nott hit .372 overall with 68 hits, eight doubles, three triples, three home runs and 27 RBI. He ranks third in the GLIAC in stolen bases with 22, reached base in 47-of-50 games and led GVSU with 21 multi-hit games. He currently has a 49-game errorless streak and tallied league-best five outfield assists. Nott ranked second in GLIAC games only with a .409 batting average, 38 hits and 25 runs scored.
