No. 11 Lakers Win 11th Straight Game and Advance to 13-1

GVSU defeats the Upper Iowa Peacocks for the second time this season

The No. 11 Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team won its 11th consecutive game tonight after defeating the Upper Iowa Peacocks 22-3 on the road. The Lakers advance to 13-1 on the year and 5-0 in the conference after taking down the Peacocks for the second time this season. 

Freshman Ashleigh Rothe got the ball rolling for the Laker offense tonight, netting the first goal of the game. GVSU finished the quarter with nine unanswered goals and shut out the Peacocks in the first. Junior Maggie Hammer and sophomore Sydney Stone would each net a goal to open up the second quarter before UIU would send home two goals of their own. The Lakers scored four more goals to close out the second quarter, with the last two goals of the half coming from junior Kate DeYoung. GVSU went into the second half with a 15-2 advantage. 

The Lakers outscored the Peacocks 4-1 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 19-3 heading into the fourth and final quarter. GVSU shut out Upper Iowa again in the fourth, with goals coming from freshmen Zoe Ziegler and A. Rothe and senior Caitlin Burnett

GVSU was led by senior Sophie Conroy who finished the day with five goals, followed by DeYoung with four. Junior Molly Bursinger, Stone, Ziegler, and A. Rothe each netted two goals as well. Bursinger also grabbed six ground balls and won six draw controls. Senior Olivia Esposito, sophomores Maddy Champagne and Hailey Crittenden, Burnett, and Hammer also recorded one goal a piece for the Lakers. GVSU finished with 12 assists and with 28 of their 35 shots on goal. 

The Lakers are back in action on Sunday, April 10, at Concordia St. Paul with the first draw set for 11:00 a.m. CST (12:00 p.m. EST).
