The No. 11 Grand Valley State Lakers defeated Concordia St. Paul for the second time this season in a 15-4 victory on the road. This is the 12th consecutive win for GVSU this season and with another GLIAC win under their belt, the Lakers advance to 6-0 in the conference and 14-1 on the season.
The Lakers and Golden Bears exchanged goals to start, but after being tied at 2-2, senior Sophie Conroy and junior Maggie Hammer each netted a goal to give the Lakers a 4-2 advantage heading into the second. Junior Kate DeYoung opened the quarter with her first goal of the day and CSP responded with a goal of their own. The Lakers finished the half with six unanswered goals and led 11-3 at halftime.
GVSU shut out the Golden Bears in the third quarter and outscored CSP 3-0 with goals from sophomore Maddy Champagne, Conroy, and Hammer. Going into the final period with a 14-3 advantage, Conroy opened the quarter with her fourth goal of the day. The Lakers and Golden Bears each sent home one goal in the fourth quarter, giving the Lakers a 15-4 victory over CSP.
Conroy led the Lakers with her fourth hat trick in a row (10th hat trick this season) as she netted four goals for GVSU. Junior Molly Bursinger, sophomore Sydney Stone, Champagne, DeYoung, and Hammer each chipped in two goals a piece, while sophomore Hailey Crittenden netted one goal on the day. Bursinger also won five draw controls, followed by Champagne who won four, while sophomore goalkeeper Audrey Maloney and freshman goalkeeper Kaylyn Cater each recorded four saves.
The Lakers are back in action on Saturday, April 16, at Davenport University. First draw is set 12:00 p.m.
