Lakers are Ready for Action

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's and women's track and field team will travel to three track meets this weekend on Friday - Saturday, April 8 - 9. The pole vault squad will be traveling to the Oakland University - Golden Grizzlies Invitational in Rochester, Mich. Sprints, Hurdles, and Jumps will travel to the Pacesetter Sports Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. at Indiana State. Lastly, the Distance crew will travel to Cleveland, Tenn. to compete at the Lee Flames Invitational.

In pole vault, Elli Kimes, Kassidie Stimmel, and Carly Livingston are ranked in the top-15 in DII. Kimes is currently ranked first after clearing a height of 4.17m at the Spartan Invitational on April 1. Stimmel is ranked seventh clearing 4.02m and Livingston is 14th with a height of 3.87m. For the men, James Nutt and Max Rauch will be competing in hopes of reaching a NCAA DII provo mark of 4.82m. Nutt and Rauch cleared a season-best height of 4.61m at the Spartan Invitational. 

Makiyah Smallwood and Jackson Blanchard are scheduled to compete in 110m hurdles in Terre Haute, Ind. Smallwood is ranked 19th in the nation after crossing the line with a time of 14.34 at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational on March 24. Blanchard will also be competing in the 400m hurdles in which he is ranked third in the nation with a time of 51.18.  Brandon Miller is set to compete in the 200m for the first time this season. Miller won the 200m at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships with a time of 21.02.  In the outdoor season, Miller is currently ranked 12th in the 100m with a time of 10.43. Fellow sprinter, Caelon Harkey will also be competing in the 200m. Harkey is ranked 14th in DII in the 400m with a time of 47.75. 

On the women's sprint team, Isabel Abdouch is set to compete in the 200m. Abdouch placed third at the in 400m at the GLIAC Indoor Championships with a time of 59.02. Deji'ona Simpson will be competing in 400m. Simpson placed fourth at the indoor championships with a time of 59.48. 

In jumps, Eli Kosiba is set to compete in the high jump at the Pacesetter Sports Invitational. Kosiba cleared a height of 2.11m at the Spartan Invitational ranking him fifth in DII.  Jenna Doyle will be competing in the women's high jump looking to clear 1.68m to qualify for Nationals, the same height she cleared the 2022 GLIAC Indoor Championships. 

Competing at the Flames Invitational, Dennis Mbuta will take on the 800m and 1500m races. Mbuta is currently ranked 14th in the 800m with a time of 1:51.20.  The Lakers distance squad will be packed into the 10,000m race with Sam Martens, Sam Baustert, Morgan McGrew, Daniel Lambert, Ben Zaremba, Noah Steffen, and Justin Hill competing for the men's team. For the women's team, Michelle Koetje, Lynsey Amthor, Emma Everhart-Deckard, and Lucy Karpukhno will be competing in the 10,000m. The Laker women will also have four athletes competing in the 3000m steeplechase, Natalie Graber, Landyn Howell, Analynne Klotz, and Paige McAloon
