DETROIT – The Grand Valley State baseball fell at Wayne State in the series finale Saturday (April 15). The Lakers falls to 22-12 on the season, 5-5 in conference play. GVSU will host Purdue Northwest in a doubleheader Tuesday (April 19) beginning at 1:05 pm.
The Lakers struck first in the opening inning when
Nathan Logan doubled to center field, scoring
Spencer Nelson. The Warriors took the lead in the third inning after scoring seven runs. The Warriors made it 8-1 in the fifth off a sacrifice fly. Logan added another run for the Lakers in the sixth after hitting his eighth home run of the season, second of the weekend.
Mark Scannell got the start on the mound and suffered the loss (2-1) after tossing 2.1 innings allowing five runs off one hit. Joe Huesing pitched three scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit, whle striking out two batters. Logan went 2-4 at the plate with a double and a home run with two runs batted in.
Spencer Nelson and
Connor Schuman each went 1-3 on the day.
