The Grand Valley State baseball team split today's doubleheader against McKendree and took three out of the four games this weekend. The Lakers dropped game one 9-7, and won game two 13-8, moving to 13-6 on the season.

Game One – L, 9-7

McKendree jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after a leadoff solo home run, followed by a 2-run home run two batters later. The Bearcats used the long ball again in the first inning to make it 4-0. GVSU quickly answered in the second inning.
Carter Smith got the Lakers on the board by scoring off a throwing error.
MacArthur Graybill hit a sacrifice fly out to make it 4-2, and
Spencer Nelson singled down the left field line to make it 4-3.

The Lakers would take their first lead in the game in the third inning when
Nathan Logan hit his second home run of the weekend and fourth of the year to left center field to give GVSU a 5-4 lead. Later in the inning,
Jake Rydquist singled to left field to double the lead. In the fourth inning,
Kyle Nott scored off a McKendree fielding error that made it 7-4.

McKendree would regain the lead by pouring across five runs in the fifth inning. That five run inning would end up being the difference as GVSU would not be able to tie the game.
Ben Thomas suffered the loss (2-1) after pitching 0.2 innings of relief.
Nathan Logan led the Lakers with two RBI's, while
Connor Schuman scored two runs.

Game Two – W, 13-8

Connor Schuman put the Lakers on the board early with a bases clearing triple to right center to make it 3-0 after the opening half inning. McKendree answered with a 5-run bottom half of the first inning, homering twice to take a 5-3 lead. McKendree would add another run to take a 6-3 lead in the second inning off an RBI double to left center.
Spencer Nelson got the Lakers within two in the fourth when he tripled and scored off a wild pitch.

GVSU scored eight runs in the fifth inning to take a 12-6 lead. The scoring party started with
Justin Ratliff driving a bases clearing double to center field.
Spencer Nelson doubled down the left field line to score Ratliff. After
Kyle Nott singled and stole second,
Christian Faust singled up the middle to score Nelson and Nott, making it 10-6. Next batter,
Nathan Logan stayed red hot, crushing his third home run of the weekend, fifth of the season over the center field.

Spencer Nelson would join the home run party in the sixth inning with a solo shot to left center to make it a 13-6 game. McKendree would hit another home run in the sixth, making it 13-8. GVSU would end up hanging on to a five run victory as there was no scoring in the final three innings.

Mark Scannell got the start on the mound and pitched a no decision.
Collin Bradley got the win (3-1) after pitching three innings of relief.
Nathan Logan led the offensive attack by going 5-6 from the plate with a home run, double, two RBI's, and three runs scored.
Spencer Nelson was a single shy of the cycle, going 3-6 with home run, triple, double, and two RBI's.
Justin Mansager and
Connor Schuman each had two hits and a run scored. Schuman added three RBI's off a triple.
Christian Faust added two hits with two RBI's and two runs scored.
