The No. 10 Grand Valley State Lakers advance to 7-1 on the season as they take down the Tiffin Dragons at home in a 19-2 victory. GVSU is now on a five game winning streak as they prepare for their next game on Saturday against Notre Dame College.
The Lakers matched their season-high of 19 goals today, scoring 19 straight goals before the Dragons netted two goals in the final eight minutes of the fourth period. GVSU came out looking to score right away, scoring two goals in the very first minute of play. The Lakers scored a game high seven goals in the first quarter and shut out TU for three straight periods.
Scoring two hat tricks, senior Olivia Esposito and freshman Zoe Ziegler led the Lakers in today's win with three goals a piece. Senior Sophia Conroy, juniors Molly Bursinger and Maggie Hammer, and sophomores Hailey Crittenden and Maddy Champagne each netted two goals a piece. Senior Hannah Moore, sophomore Sydney Stone, and freshman Ellie Bernard each scored a goal as well. Crittenden grabbed four ground balls for the Lakers, while Bursinger also forced three turnovers for the Dragons today.
Defensively, GVSU held the Dragons to just five shots on the day, while also forcing 16 turnovers and grabbing 17 ground balls compared to TU's three ground balls. The Lakers finished with 24 of their 33 shots on goal and dished out six assists today.
The Lakers are back in action at home on Saturday, March 19, against Notre Dame College before finally opening up GLIAC play on Friday, March 25 against Concordia St. Paul.
