Rylie Bisballe finishes with double-double

GVSU - NMU Basketball Highlights

The #5-ranked Grand Valley state women's basketball team extended its winning streak to 15 games tonight as they claimed a 50-42 GLIAC win over Northern Michigan at the GVSU Arena. The Lakers improve to 13-1 in the GLIAC action and 20-1 on the season.

The Lakers were led by senior Emily Spitzley who finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Sophomore Rylie Bisballe was also a big factor for the Lakers tonight as she finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking three shots. Sophomore Hadley Miller also came off of the bench and scored nine points for GVSU.

Sophomore Courtney Sharland started the quarter with a block in the first defensive possession of the game and followed by scoring the first two baskets for the Lakers. The Lakers outscored NMU 11-7 in the first quarter while holding the Wildcats to just 17% from the floor. It was a low scoring first half for both squads, as GVSU finished the second quarter with just a 20-17 advantage over the Wildcats.

Only three Lakers had scored for GVSU in the first half. Emily Spitzley led the way with 10 points, followed by Rylie Bisballe with six points and Courtney Sharland with four points. The Lakers had their best offensive outputs in the third and fourth quarter, as Grand Valley outscored the Wildcats 30-25 in the second half and shot 44% in the third while shooting 39% in the fourth.

GVSU looked to be aggressive tonight as they were able to get to the free-throw line 23 times compared to NMU's seven attempts. The Lakers also scored 17 points off of the Wildcats' 18 turnovers.

The Lakers are back in action at home on Saturday, Feb. 12 for Sawyers Day against the Michigan Tech Huskies. Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m.
