MIDLAND, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team earned a second consecutive win, running away from the Northwood Timberwolves, 72-54, Tuesday (Feb. 1) night at Riepma Arena. The Lakers improve to 14-5 and 8-4 in GLIAC and head north to face Lake Superior State on Thursday at 7:30 PM.
Isaac Gassman knocked down six three-pointers and led the way with 24 points, including 20 in the first half, and
Jake Van Tubbergen stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.
Jordan Harris finished with nine points and
Christian Negron pulled in eight rebounds, with five coming on the offensive glass.
After the teams traded buckets early, the Lakers trailed 8-7 before an 11-0 run put them up by double-figures. Northwood would never get closer than nine the rest of the way as Gassman knocked down six first-half threes as part of his career night. It was the first six-three performance by a Laker since February 27, 2020 when Gassman did it against Davenport.
Van Tubbergen was held in check to just three points in the first half but had an assist on the opening bucket of the second half then willed one home himself to get his scoring going to the tune of ten second-half points in the win.
The Lakers face Lake Superior State Thursday night at 7:30 PM in Sault Ste. Marie. The game can be heard live on The Ticket West Michigan (106.1 FM and 1340 AM) or www.theticketmi.com.
