ALLENDALE—The Grand Valley State men's basketball team ended the 2022 calendar year with a, 93-45, victory on Saturday evening inside of the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.

The Lakers (7-6) clinched their fourth consecutive win of the season with a solid second-half performance. GVSU held a 16-point advantage at halftime but came out on fire in the second half. GVSU scored 51 points in the second half while allowing Aquinas to just 19 points. The Saints (6-8) didn't manage to score until the 14:00 mark of the second half.

Chinedu Kingsley Okanu and
Marius Grazulis dominated down low for GVSU. Okanu led the way with 15 points and Grazulis added 13 points of his own. The pair also combined for 13 of the Lakers' 35 rebounds.

Okanu's seven rebounds led the Lakers and
Britain Harris led the Lakers in assists with four. Harris also had five steals, which is the most by a Laker in a game this season.

The Lakers shot an exceptional 61.8 percent clip from the field, which is their highest shooting percentage of the season. Six of GVSU's seven wins have come when it outshoots its opponent.

GVSU controlled the glass, outrebounding Aquinas 35-27. The Lakers held a massive margin in the paint scoring 48 points in the post compared to the Saints' 18 points. GVSU also capitalized on Aquinas turnovers, scoring 30 points off Saints' turnovers, while Aquinas scored just two points off of GVSU turnovers.

The Lakers return to action Thursday with a road GLIAC matchup against Parkside. That game is set for an 8:30 p.m. tipoff in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
