ALLENDALE, MICH. – The playoffs have arrived for the Grand Valley women's volleyball team, as they prepare for the GLIAC tournament quarterfinals tomorrow night at 7pm on the road at Davenport. The two teams meet for the third time this season, with each squad winning the road matchup in four sets.
The Lakers are the six seed in the conference tournament, after finishing 17-12 overall and 10-8 in league play, while the Panthers are the three seed, going 22-8 and 13-5 during GLIAC action. The all-time series between the two West Michigan schools is tied at seven wins apiece, with the road team winning four of the last five contests.
Two freshman,
Kendall Stover and
Jordyn Gates, have led the Lakers this season. Stover leads the team with 298 kills and 3.01 kills per set, while Gates isn't too far behind with 295 kills and leads the team with 354 digs and is second with 584 assists.
Rachel Jacquay leads the team in both assists (608) and service aces (26), while ranking third with 235 digs.
Jaelianna Primus and
Sarah Wight are tied for the team lead with 70 blocks each. GVSU has won three of their past five games to close out the regular season, including a four-set victory over the panthers on October 25.
Senior outside hitter Hayley Kreiger is the main cog in the Davenport offense, as she has a GLIAC leading 541 kills, and has only been held to single-digit kills one time this season. In the first meeting between the two teams, Kreiger had 28 kills on a .282 hitting percentage, but in game two the Lakers were able to contain her, and held her to 16 kills on just a .102 swinging percentage. The Panthers also split the setting duties, with Lexie Beeke (632) and Nicole Odeen (424) both recording considerable time directing the offense. Kelsey Corstange is the GLIAC leader in digs with 576, and Bethany Wilson is sixth in the conference with 84 total blocks. DU has also won three of their past five contests, with their only losses coming at home against GV, and on the road at Ferris State that closed out the regular season.
