Lakers Break Century Mark En Route to Victory Against Michigan-Dearborn

ALLENDALE—The Grand Valley State men's basketball team eclipsed the century mark, beating Michigan Dearborn, 101-64, on Saturday night inside of the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.

The Lakers got up big early thanks to a 25-0 run, spanning over seven minutes in the middle of the first half. GVSU went from the 13:16 mark until the 6:15 mark in the first half without giving up a point.

After that substantial run, GVSU (3-4) didn't let the Wolverines (1-9) get closer than 20 points.

The Lakers' win stops a three-game losing streak. It's also the first time since Nov. 23, 2021, that GVSU has scored more than 100 points. The Lakers put up 105 against Grace Christian just 368 days ago.

Luke Toliver led the way in the scoring column. Toliver scored 20 points on a 7-for-10 shooting night and was 5-for-8 from behind the 3-point line. Toliver added four rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Britain Harris also scored 15 points for the Lakers on a 4-for-7 shooting night from behind the 3-point line. Trevon Gunter scored 12 points and Ben Karbe added 11 points.

Marius Grazulis was GVSU's leading rebounder with eight boards and Trevor Smith led the Lakers in assists with five.

The Lakers shot 53.2 percent from the floor and only allowed the Wolverines to shoot 43.9 percent from the floor. GVSU moves to 3-0 when it outshoots its opponent.

GVSU also dominated the glass, outrebounding Michigan-Dearborn 40-26. The Laker bench was crucial again on Saturday, scoring 51 points. The Wolverines' bench accounted for just 15 points.

The Lakers' next game is to open conference play at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday against Ferris State in Big Rapids.
