ALLENDALE, MICH. – After taking a week in between games, the Grand Valley women's basketball team is back in action tomorrow afternoon at 5pm against former GLIAC member Northwood in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
The Lakers enter that matchup with a perfect 4-0 record, winning the four games by an average of 28.25 points. Two players are averaging double-figures to begin the season with
Emily Spitzley scoring 14.3 points and
Ellie Droste averaging 11.5 points.
Nicole Kamin and
Hannah Kulas are close behind at 9.5 points each.
Courtney Sharland is the leading rebounder at five per game, while Spitzley and
Hadley Miller are each grabbing four rebounds a contest. As a team, Grand Valley is shooting 48.1% from the field and 38.9% from deep and averaging 80 points per game and only giving up just under 52 points per game.
Northwood is 2-3 coming into the game, winning games against Saginaw Valley and LSSU to open the season, before losing their last three games against Ferris State, Indianapolis, and Davenport. This is the Timberwolves first season in the GMAC, where they were picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll. Three players are scoring in double-figures, paced by Makenzie Todd's 16.2 points per game, with Ava DiMilia scoring 10.8 and Maize Taylor averaging 10.2. Maddie Voelker is grabbing 6.6 rebounds per game and the Timberwolves have forced over 21 turnovers per contest.
This is the 42
nd all-time meeting between the two programs, with GVSU leading the series 30-11, including winning the previous three games, and nine of the past ten, including both games last season. The Lakers won 65-53 in Midland and defeated Northwood 70-61 at home last year on Senior Day.
