Lakers Sign Three players To Incoming Class

11.17.2022

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley women's basketball team and head coach Mike Williams announced the signing of three freshmen in their 2023 recruiting class. The players signed their national letters of intent during the early signing period that began on November 8th.

"We are excited about the 2023 recruiting class," remarked head coach Mike Williams. "We believe all three signees are committed to excellence, being their best, and continuing the great competitive culture that Grand Valley State has had over the years. We feel these three players will be a great compliment to the group we already have here."

Ava Scanlon | Forward | 6-2 | Grand Ledge, MI | Grand Ledge High School

Ava Scanlon has been named the all-conference and Team MVP all three years of her career. She is averaging a double-double in her time at Grand Ledge, scoring 10.7 points and grabbing 10.8 rebounds per game. She has also been a defensive stalwart, recording 61 blocks in her career, good for over one a game.

Lauren Slagle | Forward | 6-1 | Geneva, Ill. | Geneva High School

Lauren Slagle is a versatile forward from Illinois who earned all-conference honors a season ago and was a three-time academic all-conference honoree. Slagle helped lead her team to a 25-5 record and a perfect 14-0 in conference play and all the way to the third round of the playoffs. Slagle averaged 9.9 points per game and over six rebounds per game, while also recording 42 assists and 32 steals.

Maya White | Forward | 6-1 | Farmington Hills, MI | Farmington Mercy High School

Maya White heads into her fourth year on varsity for Farmington Mercy, having already led her team to 53 victories over her first three years. White is a three-time all Catholic League honoree and was also named to the Detroit News All-North team all three years, as well as the Detroit Free Press All-North team twice.

"With two lefties, in Ava and Lauren, and all three newcomers being over 6' tall, it will give us some more length to help us on the defensive end and make us stronger on the glass," said Williams. "We look forward to following their success this high school season and to having them part of Laker women's basketball for the 2022-23 Season!"
