ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 6 Grand Valley State women's soccer team travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin and Hammond, Indiana for a pair of GLIAC contests this weekend. The Lakers will face Parkside Friday (Oct. 21) afternoon at 1:00 PM ET, before taking on Purdue Northwest Sunday (Oct. 23) at 3:00 PM ET.
With only three games remaining in the regular season, the Lakers are in first place in the GLIAC standings with an 8-0-3 record, 10-1-4 overall. The Lakers are 8-0-2 in their last 10 games and has pitched five clean sheets and outscored their opponents 27-7 during that span. Last weekend, the Lakers concluded their regular season home schedule with a 3-1 win over Saginaw Valley State and a 1-1 draw against Ferris State.
Last Friday against Saginaw Valley, the Laker drew two penalty kicks in the first half and took advantage of them.
Kennedy Bearden scored on the first penalty kick and
Taylor Reid converted off the rebound on the second one. Bearden finished the game with two goals and assist and
Kendall Robertson made six saves. On Sunday, the Lakers played to a 1-1 draw against Ferris State.
Nina Ferraro netted her third goal of the season, while Metzger dished out her third assist on the season.
Offensively, Bearden and Reid lead the Lakers with eight goals each which ranks second in the GLIAC. Bearden leads the GLIAC with seven assists and is second with 23 points. Reid is tied for fourth in the GLIAC with 18 points in her junior campaign. Graduate transfer
Kennedy Metzger has added three goals and three assists for nine points for the Lakers this season. Senior defender
Cate Brown has led all Laker field players with 1,133 minutes played including seven complete games which are both career highs. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kendall Robertson leads the GLIAC with an .843 save percentage and a 0.57 goals-against average. Robertson has stopped 43 saves which is fifth in the GLIAC, and her eight goals allowed is the second lowest in the conference.
Parkside enters the weekend with a 5-10 overall record, 2-9 in the GLIAC. The Rangers are 2-8 in their last 10 contests. The Lakers lead the all-time series against Parkside 14-4. In their last meeting, the Lakers defeated the Rangers 2-1 earlier this season. Metzger scored the game-winning goal in the 84
th minute off a feed from Bearden.
Senior Alexis Baker leads the Parkside attack with six goals and three assists for 15 points this season. Freshman Emily Mikkelson has dished out seven assists which his tied for first in the conference and has notched two goals for nine points this season. Senior defender Chloe Grooters leads all Parkside players with 1,183 minutes played. In goal, junior Mia Guyton has made 11 appearances on the season making 10 starts. Guyton has posted a 3-6 record notching 67 saves with a .779 save percentage.
On Sunday, the Lakers will travel to Hammond, Indiana to take on Purdue Northwest. The Pride are 0-14-1 on the season, 0-11 in GLIAC play. The Lakers are 6-0 all-time against Purdue Northwest. The last time these teams played, the Lakers dominated in an 8-0 win in Allendale earlier this season. Three Lakers scored multiple goals in the win as the defense did not allow the Pride to get off one single shot attempt.
Senior Kaci Pampreen has scored three goals this season on 10 shots this season. Junior Lauryn Tillmon has notched a goal this season on two shots on goal. Goalkeepers Bridget Grady and Ashley Lovins have split time in between the pipes this season appearing in nine games each. Loving has made eight starts, while Grady has made seven starts. Grady has stopped 56 shots, notching a .718 save percentage, while Loving has stopped 51 shots for a .739 save percentage.
