Men's Golf Ends Fall Season With Fourth Victory Of The Year

Charles DeLong Becomes The Winningest Golfer In GVSU Men's Golf History With Ninth Career Win

DEARBORN, MICH. – The Grand Valley men's golf team closed out their fall season the same way they started it, with team and individual victories. The team closed out their fourth victory of the year, winning by two strokes, while Charles DeLong picked up his third win of the year, and school record setting ninth of his career, as the Lakers closed out the season in style.
 
"It was a tough a gritty win by the guys despite some massive coaching errors early," said head coach Gary Bissell. "We are looking forward to a productive offseason."
 
GVSU won the event by shooting a 590 (+14), claiming their fourth victory of the fall campaign. Wayne State was three strokes back at seventeen over, while Ferris State finished at +19 to end in third. Tiffin was fourth at +33, while Wayne State's B team was fifth, ending the tournament at thirty-seven over par.
 
DeLong's victory broke a tie with Kevin Kremer for the most individual wins for a men's golfer in GVSU history by recording his ninth win over his four years in Allendale. DeLong shot an even par 72 today with five birdies and finished the 36-hole tournament at one under, beating second-place by one stroke. Drew Coble finished in a tie for eighth place at four over, shooting a 70 (-2) today with five birdies. Nick Krueger was also tied for eighth, carding a 75 (+3) today with an eagle and four birdies. Charlie Cooley finished tied for 14th (+7), shooting a 77 with two birdies. Fifth-man Andrew Gwilliams was tied for 35th (+15), carding a two-birdie round of 81. Individual Alex Jordan was tied for 29th (+13) after tallying a round of 75 today while recording an eagle on hole 16.
