ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team bounced back Saturday (Jan. 15) with an 82-59 win over Lake Superior State on Kids Day at the Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers improve to 10-3 on the season and 4-2 in GLIAC play. The Lakers will hit the road to the Upper Peninsula to face Michigan Tech next Thursday at 7:30 PM.
The Lakers drilled 12 threes and outscored Lake State by 20 in the second half to run away with the win. Three Lakers scored in double figures, led by a double-double from
Jake Van Tubbergen with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Jordan Harris scored 10 points, dished a career-high eight assists and
Isaac Gassman had 12 points and nine rebounds.
After a slow start offensively for both sides, the Lakers trailed 16-15 with 12 minutes left in the first half, but the Lakers turned on the three-pointer and opened a nine-point lead with five minutes left in the half. Lake State answered with a few threes in a row to cut the lead to three, 38-35, at halftime.
The Lakers lead was trimmed to one early in the half, but GVSU once again found their offensive rhythm, sparked by a nine-point run to push the lead by double digits and would continue to push the lead with timely shots and big stops.
