Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 9 women's soccer opens season with 4-0 win over Lindenwood

The Jim Conlon era begins with resounding result Thursday night

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 9 Grand Valley State Lakers opened the 25th season of GVSU Soccer with a resounding 4-0 win over the Lindenwood Lions Thursday (Sept. 2) evening at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers open the season at 1-0 while the Lions fall to 0-1.

Three different Lakers scored on seven assists in a total team-effort win. Greta DeLoach got the Lakers on the board in the 25' when she finished off the Lakers first corner kick of the year. Cate Brown sent a great insert from the left side, which Cecilia Steinwascher headed off the crossbar, but DeLoach was able to find the rebound and finish off the goal.

DeLoach would give the Lakers breathing room late in the half on a play that started near midfield. Transfer Madie Knaggs threaded a ball through the middle to Chantel Carranza, who flicked DeLoach through for a right-corner finish and the Lakers took the two-goal lead into the break.

In the 67' the Lakers added to their lead when Mackenzie Jones lofted a cross along the end line for Chantel Carranza to head home. Kennedy Bearden would round out the scoring in the 77' off a double assist from DeLoach and Carranza. Callie Rich and Kendall Robertson combined for the shutout between the pipes while the Laker team defense was outstanding.

Grand Valley State is back at it on Saturday (Sept. 4) when they host the Findlay Oilers at 12:00 PM at the GVSU Soccer Field. @GVSUSoccer and gvsulakers.com will provide links to live stats and video.
