CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Grand Valley State baseball team will travel across town to play a four-game series at Davenport University beginning Friday at 4:00 PM. Games two and three are slated for Saturday with the first pitch at 1:00 PM and the series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 12:00 PM.

The shorthanded Lakers traveled to Parkside last weekend and salvaged a split with the Rangers. GVSU trailed the series 2-1 entering Sunday's finale and found themselves down 4-0 early in the game before exploding for five runs in the fourth inning to come away with a 7-6 win.

Jake Rydquist stepped into a bigger role last weekend and finished 5-for-11 with five runs, five walks, and two RBI. GVSU's leading hitter, Carter Smith, continued his hot streak with a team-high seven hits and Parker Murdie extended his hitting streak to 13 games after notching five hits on the weekend. The Lakers also received a significant contribution from newcomer, Kyle Nott, who joined the team early last week. Nott reached base eight times in 13 plate appearances and tallied two triples in three games played.

On the mound, Mark Scannell and Luke Hargis were credited with the wins, while Jared Skubic appeared in two games, totaling 6 2/3 innings pitched, allowing zero earned runs and earning the save in the series finale.

Davenport enters the weekend with a 16-12 overall and 9-7 conference record. The Panthers are currently on a three-game losing streak after winning their series opener with Northwood last weekend. Davenport has two players ranked highly in offensive categories in the GLIAC. Noah Marcoux leads the league in home runs (8) and is fifth in RBI (30), while Nolan Anspaugh is tied for second in home runs (6) and tied for first in RBI (33). The team's offense is ranked toward the top half of the conference in most major categories, but the pitching staff is near the bottom in several categories including; ERA (6.90), hits allowed (272), and walks (131).
