HAMMOND, Ind. – The Grand Valley State volleyball team finished the regular season with an 11-3 record after sweeping Purdue Northwest (25-21, 25-16, 25-19) on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers will learn their seed at the GLIAC Tournament following the completion of today's matches. Regardless of seed, GVSU will begin play at SVSU on Friday, April 9.
Karlie Kucharczyk recorded a team-high 13 kills, while
Abby Graham finished with eight kills and 11 digs.
Jayla Wesley totaled six blocks and setters
Rachel Jacquay and
Erin O'Leary tallied 18 and 16 assists respectively. As a team, the Lakers recorded an attack percentage of .230 and totaled 42 kills.
Purdue Northwest grabbed an early lead at 8-5 before GVSU quickly changed the momentum and led 21-14, capitalizing on errors made by the Pride. The Laker lead was trimmed to just two points at 23-21, but a pair of kills from Kucharczyk and
Jaelianna Primus gave GVSU the set one win. The Laker scored the first five points of the second set and went on an 8-0 run midway through the set to take a commanding 16-5 lead. The two teams would trade points for the remainder of the set before the Lakers concluded the set on a kill from
Lisa Sullivan.
GVSU led the for the entirety of set three and were up by as many as seven points at 19-12. A
Jayla Wesley kill ended the match and gave the Lakers their third straight victory.
