Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 8 Lakers sweep Northern Michigan, dominate 18-6 Sunday afternoon

GVSU improves to 8-1 on the season

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 8 Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team picked up the eighth win of the season with an 18-6 decision over Northern Michigan Sunday afternoon.  GVSU completed the sweep to remain the only perfect team in GLIAC standings.

For the second consecutive game, the Lakers defeated the Wildcats by double-digits.  The Laker freshmen ruled the net, with Maddy Champagne (five goals), Sydney Stone (four goals) and Hailey Crittenden (three goals) leading the team offensively.  Sophie Conroy, Molly Bursinger and Champagne each dished out three assists, while the team totaled 15 draw controls, compared to Northern Michigan's nine.

The Laker defense allowed just three goals in each half, limiting the Wildcats to a total of 15 goals across the two-game span.  Goalkeeper Abigail Dengler picked up the win with two saves, while Audrey Maloney collected three saves in the net.

GVSU now holds all seven wins in the matchup with Northern Michigan.  More impressively, the Wildcats have never scored in double digits against the Laker defense.

The Lakers return to action on Thursday with a road trip to No. 20 Roberts Wesleyan, followed by a pair of games at Ashland in their final meeting as conference foes.
