MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 8 Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team earned their seventh win of the season in a decision over Northern Michigan on Friday, 19-9. The Lakers are now the only undefeated team in GLIAC play with an overall record of 7-1.
GVSU led from wire to wire, netting the first three goals of the game from the likes of
Molly Bursinger,
Sophie Conroy and
Maddy Champagne. For the second consecutive game, Champagne led scorers with four goals. Bursinger, Conroy and
Maggie Hammer each added a hat trick, while
Olivia Esposito tabbed two goals, marking five Lakers as multiple scorers.
The closest score of the game landed at the six-minute mark, with the Wildcats cutting the Laker lead to 3-2. Northern Michigan would score just three more goals to enter the half, compared to the Lakers' six.
Similar to the first half, GVSU scored early and often, netting the first three goals yet again. The Lakers won 17 draw controls, with seven coming from Hammer's stick, while the Wildcats earned 14 draw controls. Freshmen

Payton Neil earned her fifth win on the season, recording one save, while
Abigail Dengler posted six saves in the net. As a team, the Laker defense caused seven turnovers. Bursinger led the game with three ground balls and defenders

Anna Reynolds each picked up one.
The Lakers and Wildcats meet again on Sunday with a noon draw.
