Freshman Champagne met her new career-high with six goals and seven points. Conroy and Bursinger each recorded a hat trick, while
Kate DeYoung,
Olivia Esposito,
Maggie Hammer and
America Vizcaino each netted a pair in the double-digit W. Champagne controlled a team-high five draws as Bursinger led the Lakers with three caused turnovers.
The Laker defense put on a show, allowing just one shot in the first half. GVSU posted a near-perfect second half until a late effort by Katie Moynihan found its way into the back of the net. Goalkeeper
Payton Neil earned the win with three saves and
Audrey Maloney added a couple in the final 18 minutes.
GVSU improves their record to four wins and one loss, with a perfect GLIAC record of 1-0. Since the 2013 season, the Lakers have never been defeated in the conference opener. The Lakers and Golden Bears will again take the field at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium this Saturday at 11 a.m.
