EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The No. 21 Grand Valley State Lakers finished off the 2021 Midwest Region Crossover with a 5-0 win over Lake Erie College Sunday (March 7) at Deaconess Sports Park. The Lakers are now 6-2 on the season and have two weeks off before their next games at Ohio Dominican on March 20.
 
The Lakers erupted for five first-inning runs when the first three batters of the inning reached to load the bases before Taylor Rieger knocked in two with a single, Bailey Thatcher singled home a run and Morgan Wagner ripped a single down the line in right to bring in two more.
 
Hannah Hollister singled home a run in the sixth and the Lakers added another run later in the inning on an error for some added breathing room.
 
The early cushion would be plenty for freshman Genesis Eggart (W, 1-0), who hurled a one-hitter in a complete-game shutout to earn her first career win. She walked one and struck out six, using 102 pitches to blank the Storm.
 
The Lakers win three of the five games played over the weekend, all against regional opponents.
