No. 19 softball splits at Walsh Sunday

Lakers erupt for 11 runs in game two to earn split

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The No. 19 Grand Valley State Lakers split a pair of games against the Walsh Cavaliers Sunday (March 21) in the final games before conference play begins. The Lakers are now 8-3 on the season and will host Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday (March 25).

The Lakers fell, 1-0, in game one. Hannah Beatus (L, 3-2) allowed just one run on five hits in six innings of work but suffered the loss on an RBI-triple in the fifth. She struck out five and walked just one.

The Laker bats erupted in response, winning game two, 11-2, in six innings. Lydia Goble led the offensive onslaught with a 3-for-4 performance with three RBI and a run scored. GVSU scored four runs in the first inning on a Morgan Wagner two-run double, followed by a two-run knock by Bailey Thatcher.

Goble would follow up with a run-scoring single in the second then a two-run hit in the fourth to help the Lakers pull away. Genesis Eggart (W, 2-0) allowed a couple runs, one earned, on seven hits to get the win.

The Lakers begin GLIAC play this Thursday (March 25) when the Parkside Rangers come to town for a doubleheader. Fans are allowed and the games will stream live on the Grand Valley Sports Network.
