Lakers erase 13-point deficit to advance to semifinals

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Grand Valley State Lakers shook off a slow start for a 72-57 comeback win over the Lake Superior State Lakers Thursday (March 4) at John Friend Court in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals. The 2-seeded Lakers will advance to Friday's semifinal, where they'll face the winner of tonight's game between Purdue Northwest and Michigan Tech. The Lakers improve to 12-6 on the season with the win.

Christian Negron dominated on both ends of the floor, scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds with a season-best five blocks. Isaac Gassman added 19 points and eight boards while Jake Van Tubbergen contributed seven points, 10 rebounds and five assists. The Lakers finished the first half on a 9-2 run to cut their deficit to five, 32-27. They would keep their foot on the accelerator out of the break, outscoring Lake State 31-10 over the first ten minutes of the second period ro jump out to a big lead and coast to victory.
