The Grand Valley State baseball team swept the GLIAC weekly awards after a four-game sweep of Purdue Northwest last weekend. Senior
Ryan Blake-Jones was named GLIAC Player of the Week, while freshman
Nick Rutkowski earned GLIAC Pitcher of the Week.
Blake-Jones led the Laker offense at Purdue Northwest by going 7-for-16 with a homerun, three doubles, and eight RBI to increase his batting average on the season to .304. The Ann Arbor, Mich. native has tallied four multi-hit games this year including three on the weekend to help GVSU sit atop the GLIAC standings at 4-0.
Rutkowski threw a gem in game one of the series at Purdue Northwest to set the tone for the weekend. The Sterling Heights, Mich. native tossed a complete game (9 innings), allowing one run on four hits, while striking out five, in a 7-1 win over the Pride. Rutkowski boasts a 2.10 ERA on the season with three quality starts.
GVSU will host Spring Arbor University (NAIA) tomorrow afternoon (Mar. 30) at 3:00 PM before traveling to Northwood for a four-game series beginning on Thursday (April 1).
