GVSU Announces Spring Sport Spectator Policy

03.15.2021

Grand Valley State University athletics announced today that no spectators will be allowed for the start of the 2021 spring sporting events schedule. This decision was made based on information about the COVID-19 virus from the CDC. Further guidance was considered from the state and local health department for the Great Lakers Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and it's members institutions to make this decision. The allowance of spectators is reviewed on a weekly basis by GLIAC athletic directors.  Should circumstances change at some point during the spring, the athletic department could revisit the allowance of spectators.

"Our entire athletics department, from student-athletes to coaches to administrators and staff, have worked tirelessly to ensure our teams have a chance to practice and compete without interruption," said Keri Becker, GVSU Director of Athletics. "What we have been doing has worked, so we will maintain this course of action. We owe it to them and their families to do everything within our power to make sure they can play their full season and do so safely. We are extremely hopeful that at some point in the spring we will be able to allow fans to attend outdoor events," added Becker.

Nearly every home event will be available for pay-per-view streaming on the Grand Valley Sports Network. Streams can be accessed online at www.watchgvsn.com or by searching for the WatchGVSN app. For a schedule of all home events, visit www.gvsulakers.com.
