No. 11 Lakers earn 14-8 decision over IUP

GVSU picks up third consecutive win

INDIANA, Pa. – The No. 11 Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team took down Indiana (Pa.) with a 14-8 win on Friday.  The Lakers improve to 3-0 after handing the Crimson Hawks their first loss of the season.

The Lakers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to efforts by Sophie Conroy and Kate DeYoung.  After a 3-1 run by the Crimson Hawks, the Lakers pulled ahead with four consecutive goals to notch the score to 7-3 with 10 minutes to go in the first half.  Indiana (Pa.) netted two goals before freshman Aislynn Alkire scored her first collegiate goal as the time expired to enter the half.

The second half was led offensively by two goals apiece from midfielders Conroy, Molly Bursinger and Olivia Esposito.  Conroy picked up five ground balls, while Alkire and Maddy Champagne each grabbed four.  As a team, the Lakers caused 13 turnovers, with multiple coming from Conroy, Bursinger and Shae Strehl.  Goalkeeper Payton Neil earned the win in the net.

GVSU opens at home against the Indianapolis Greyhounds on Saturday, March 20.  After eight match-ups between the two teams, the all-time record is tied at four wins each.
