ALLENDALE, Mich. – The #15 ranked Grand Valley State Sawyers increased their win streak to five after a 72-57 win over Ferris State on Saturday afternoon at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU improves to 9-1 overall, while the Bulldogs drop to 3-7 on the season.

Hannah Kulas led the Sawyers with 21 points (8-12 FG) and 10 rebounds, recording her first career double-double. Junior
Emily Spitzley also finished in double-figures with 17 points, while fellow classmate
Samantha Gehrls hauled in a career-high 10 rebounds. As a team, the Sawywers out-rebounded Ferris State 44-36 and outscored them in the paint, 38-20.
GVSU jumped on Ferris State early, controlling the game for much of the first half. The Sawyers led 22-12 at the end of the first quarter and increased their lead to 27-12 during the first minute of the second quarter. After trading baskets much of the quarter, the Sawyers went on a 7-0 run to build a 39-19 lead with 1:18 left in the half before Ferris State knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the final minute to cut the deficit to 39-25 at the break.
Kulas hit a jumper to start the third quarter, but Ferris State scored the next seven points to bring the game to 41-32 at the 7:48 mark of the third. The Sawyers would increase their lead back to 14, but the Bulldogs answered once again, going on a 12-2 run to end the quarter and cut the lead to 50-46. GVSU withstood every run against them and built a double-digit lead midway through the fourth quarter and held on for the win.
The Sawyers will revert back to the Lakers tomorrow afternoon as GVSU looks for the sweep of Ferris State. Tip-off set for 3:00 PM.
