The Lakers will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon

DETROIT, Mich. – The Grand Valley State volleyball team dropped a four-set match (25-18, 23-25, 15-25, 16-25) against Wayne State on Thursday night. The Lakers fall to 2-1 on the season, while Wayne State improves to 3-0. The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 1:00 PM.

Junior Ali Thompson led the Lakers with 14 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore setter Rachel Jacquay finished with 36 assists. Junior Abby Graham had a team-high 23 digs and sophomore Sarah Wight recorded a career-high four total blocks.

In set one, the Lakers started sluggish and they trailed 10-4 early on. GVSU answered quickly however, by going on an 8-2 run to tie the set and would take the lead at 13-12. The Lakers maintained their three-point lead at 21-18 before scoring the next four points to win the first set. GVSU flipped the script in set two by opening up an 11-7 lead on the Warriors. Wayne State would respond, scoring 10 of the next 13 points to take a 17-14 lead. The Lakers would not go away easy as they clawed their way back to make it 24-23, but the Warriors finished off the set on the ensuing point.

Wayne State led for almost the entirety of the third set and scored the final six points of the set to go up 2-1. The Lakers kept the fourth set tight until the Warriors broke a 14-14 tie and won the set, 25-16, to seal the match.
