No. 9 GVSU drops Sunday afternoon contest vs. No. 19 Michigan Tech

The Lakers will play their final two games of the regular season vs. Northwood

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 9 ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team fell to No. 19 ranked Michigan Tech, 54-44, on Sunday afternoon at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The Huskies improve to 15-1 overall, while the Lakers drop to 13-3.
 
Junior Hannah Kulas led GVSU with 17 points, while Qay Stanton scored nine points. Samantha Gehrls and Rylie Bisballe each grabbed nine rebounds. As a team, the Lakers shot just 28.8% from the field and 26.7% from three-point range.
 
A low-scoring first half featured six lead changes and no team led by more than four points. Michigan Tech took a 20-19 lead into the halftime break. To begin the second half, the Huskies built a seven-point lead at 29-22 with 6:15 left in the third quarter, but the Lakers were able to chip away and only trailed 38-36 entering the fourth quarter. GVSU trailed by just four points with 1:55 remaining in the game before MTU finished the game on a 7-1 run to seal the victory.
 
GVSU will finish out the regular season at home next week with a pair of games against Northwood.
