ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No.9 ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team will host No. 19 Michigan Tech this weekend in a matchup of the top-two teams in the GLIAC. Saturday will tip-off at 12:00 PM and the two teams will meet again on Sunday at 2:00 PM.

Both teams enter the showdown with 13-1 records and hold a four-game lead on third-place Northwood (9-5). The GLIAC Tournament will begin on March 2 with the first rounds games, however MTU and GVSU have already earned byes to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals will take place at Purdue Northwest on Friday, March 5 – Sunday, March 7. This week the NCAA came out with eight teams in the Midwest Region that are under consideration for the six regional spots including the Lakers and Huskies.

GVSU moved their win streak to nine games on Tuesday after a 63-43 win over Davenport. Junior
Brooke McKinley poured in seven three-pointers and finished the night with 22 points. The Lakers have featured a balance scoring attack all-season long with 5 different players leading the team in scoring out of their 14 games. On the defensive side of the ball, GVSU has held their last three opponents under 44 points and rank second in the conference in scoring defense at 53.3 points per game.

Michigan Tech is currently riding an 11-game win streak and has not lost since Jan. 15 against Northwood, 58-56. Similarly to the Lakers, Michigan Tech's identity is their defense, holding opponents to just 53.1 points per game (ranked 8th
 in nation) and 33.5% shooting from the field. Ellie Mackay (14.4 ppg.) and Jordan Ludescher (11.9 ppg.) are the Huskies leading scorers and only players averaging in double-figures.
