GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State Lakers dominated from wire-to-wire for their third straight win, beating the Davenport Panthers, 85-60, Tuesday night at the DU Student Center. The Lakers improve to 8-5 on the season and earn a split in the season-series with the Panthers.
Eleven different Lakers scored in the game, including four scoring in double figures in the win.
Jake Van Tubbergen scored 16 points with eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Deleon Brown matched him with 16 points and five boards and a pair of steals.
Christian Negron went a perfect 7-for-7 from the field for 14 points with five boards and a block plus
Isaac Gassman added 13 points and four rebounds.
GVSU set the tone early with offensive rebounds and put-backs in each of their first two possessions as they scored the first 15 points of the game and held Davenport scoreless for nearly five minutes from the opening tip. The Lakers would carry a 49-22 lead into halftime and cruise to their fourth win in five games.
The Lakers follow the shortest road trip of the season with the longest as they haul to Michigan Tech this weekend for a pair of games with the Huskies. GVSU enters the penultimate weekend a game back in the conference with a Friday (Feb. 19) game at noon and Saturday (Feb. 20) game at 11:00 AM at SDC Gymnasium.
