GVSU ends 2021 with 99-46 win over Judson Friday

All thirteen Lakers that play score in runaway win

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State men's basketball team ran away with a 99-46 win over the Judson Eagles Friday (Dec. 31) at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers will enter 2022 with a 9-2 record as they resume GLIAC play on January 6 at Northwood at 8 PM.

All thirteen Lakers that played on Friday scored in a balanced attack that saw three reach double figures; Christian Negron went 9-10 from the field for 18 points with 10 rebounds and a pair of steals and blocks, Luke Toliver scored a season-high 17 points with three made three-pointers ad Jordan Harris had 10 points to go along with seven assists. Ja'Kavien Lewis also had seven assists as well as three steals in the win. Jake Van Tubbergen scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds, stuffing the stat sheet with four assists, a steal and two blocks.

After a scoreless opening two minutes, both teams found their legs with the Lakers taking a 7-4 lead into the first media time out. From there, a 10-0 run would spark the runaway as the Lakers knocked down seven threes in the first half and shot 61% from the field for the game, including 13-27 from three.

The Lakers are back in action on Thursday, January 6, as they travel to Northwood to face the Timberwolves in the back end of a doubleheader with tip scheduled for 8 PM. The game can be heard on 1340 AM The Ticket West Michigan and @GVSUBasketball on Twitter will provide in-game updates.
