THE GAME
#5 Grand Valley State will host #22 Lindenwood in NCAA DII First-Round playoff action Saturday (Nov. 20) at Lubbers Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The Lakers, fresh off a 42-0 shutout victory over Davenport, finished 9-1 overall 6-1 in GLIAC action. GVSU will be making its 21st overall postseason appearance and its 20th appearance in the NCAA DII Playoffs. The Lakers are 35-15 overall in the NCAA DII Playoffs with four National Championship and six title game appearances. Grand Valley State is 35-10 since 2001 in the playoffs, including a 21-3 mark in home playoff games. The Lions are in the midst of a 9-game winning streak and claimed the 2021 GLVC Championship with a 7-0 record.Â

THE SERIES
This will be the first meeting between Grand Valley State and Lindenwood, however, GVSU does have a long history with the GLVC, the league in which Lindenwood resides. The Lakers have played the likes of Indianapolis, Missouri S&T, Truman State, Southwest Baptist and most recently William Jewell. GVSU is 24-5 all-time versus the GLVC.Â

#5 Grand Valley State jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 42-0 victory over Davenport. QB

• The Lakers finished 2019 as the GLIAC leader and 13th nationally in total defense per game 261.7.Â
• The Lakers finished GLIAC action ranked first overall and 26th nationally in rushing defense per game (98.6). The GVSU defense has yielded just four rushing TDs games and 986 rushing yards in 10 games.
• GVSU concluded regular season action as the top scoring defense in GLIAC play and rank 19th nationally at 16.6 ppg.Â
• The Laker offense ranks second in the GLIAC and eighth nationally in scoring (41.8 ppg).Â
• GVSU ranks second in the GLIAC and 27th nationally in total offense, averaging 432.7 yards per game.Â
• GVSU ranks second in the GLIAC and 10th nationally in rushing yards per game,  averaging 234.9 yards per game...The Lakers are averaging 6.3 yards per carry and have rushed for 29 TDs this season. Four different Lakers (

• The Laker defense has yielded just two TDs in the last 12 quarters of action. A TD pass by Michigan Tech in the final minutes, while Wayne State ran for a TD in the first quarter.Â
• The GVSU defense has forced its opponents into 44 three-and-out possessions and 80-of-92 total possessions that have NOT resulted in points have consisted of six plays or less. 51 drives have consisted of 10 yards or less on the season.Â
• 17 different Laker receivers have caught a pass, while 10 different players have caught a TD pass.
• GVSU broke the 300-yard rushingmark three times in 2021. The Lakers rushed for 640 yards and 10 TDs versus UW-La Crosse and Michigan Tech. GVSU rushed for 320 yards and four TDs vs. UWC, followed by a 320-yard, six-TD rushing game at MTU. GVSU concluded the regular season with a 305-yard, two TD rushing performance.Â
• The Lakers are yielding 98.6 yards per game rushing, 2.9 yards per carry and opponents have four rushing TDs in 10 games. The Laker defense limited CSU-Pueblo to 29 rushing yards on 20 attempts (1.5 ypr), Michigan Tech to 82 yards on 31 carries (2.6 ypc), Northwood to 95 yards on 34 carries, Michigan Tech in game two to 94 yards on 29 carries and Davenport to 82 yards on 43 carries.
• GVSU ranks second in the GLIAC and 24th nationally in third down percentage defense .301 (41-for-136).
• The Lakers rank second in the GLIAC and 27th nationally third down conversion at .458 (44-for-96).Â
GVSU is converting .529 percent (27-for-51) of its 3rd down attempts in the first half, while opponents are converting .298 percent (20-for-67).Â
• GVSU has recorded 22 drives that consisted of eight plays or more and have resulted in points.Â
• GVSU has produced 86 explosive plays (20 yards or more) this season, including 30 via rush, 34 via pass.Â
• GVSU has converted 37-of-42 red zone opportunities, including 35 TDs and two FGs.Â
• The GVSU defense recorded 73 tackles for loss (-237), 19 QB sacks (-102), 64 QB hurries, 41 pass deflections, recovered 12 fumbles and picked off six passes. Â
