GVSU Football Press Conference
#5 Grand Valley State claimed a 42-0 shutout victory over Davenport in the regular season finale at Lubbers Stadium before a crowd of 8,483. GVSU improves to 9-1 with the win and 6-1 in GLIAC action. GVSU, the #3 seed in the latest NCAA Division II Super Region 3 rankings, will now wait for the NCAA selection show that will air Sunday at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com to find out its opponent. The shutout was the Lakers' first since a 49-0 victory over Northwood in 2017.
The Laker offense got on track early with a 4-play, 74-yard scoring drive that took just 1:51 off the clock. Senior RB
Bryce Young-Walls raced 45 yards to the Davenport 29-yard line on the first play from scrimmage and then hauled in a 12-yard TD pass from sophomore QB

Abe Swanson forced a fumbe that sophomore DE Colton Hybe recovered on the Panthers third play from scrimmage and it took GVSU just four plays to go 38 yards for a TD. Peterson went the final eight yards and Kralapp added the PAT for a 14-0 lead.
Following a Davenport punt that was downed at the GVSU 1-yard line, Peterson directed a 6-play, 99-yard drive for a touchdown. Young-Walls and freshman receiver

Jacob Miller with a 12-yard TD pass.
The Laker defense limited Davenport to 62 yards of total offense and four first downs in the opening two quarters.
The third quarter offered no change as the Laker defense forced a three-and-out on the Panthers opening possession. Young-Walls then scampered 57 yards for a touchdown on the Lakers' third play and Kralapp added the PAT for a 28-0 lead.
GVSU added two more TDs in the fourth quarter as Peterson hit Miller for a second time, this one covering 21 yards. Sophomore QB

The GVSU defense limited Davenport to 102 yards of total offense, including 82 rushing yards on 43 attempts and 20 yards through the air. LB
Denzel Williams led the defense with 10 tackles, a TFL (-1) and a QB hurry, while LB
Abe Swanson chipped in eight stops, one QB sack (-6), one TFL (-6) and a forced fumble. DE

The Laker offense rolled up 449 yards of total offense (8.3 ypp), 305 on the ground and 144 through the air. Young-Walls led the ground game with 119 yards on six carries, followed by sophomore RB
Tariq Reid's 56 yards on seven carries and
Aryuan Cain-Veasey's 46 yards on five carries. Peterson completed 13-of-17 passes for 134 yards and three TDs. Miller caught three passes for 37 yards and two TDs, freshman WR
Cody Tierney hauled in three passes for 30 yards and
Hunter Rison chipped in three catches for 24 yards. Young-Walls also hauled in two receptions for 39 yards and a TD.
