#6 Grand Valley State (5-0) is set to host #3 Ferris State (5-0) in the 2021 version of the Anchor-Bone Classic. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Lubbers Stadium. Tickets for the game are sold out, however, Grand Valley State students can still gain entry to Lubbers Stadium with a valid ID. Parking lots will open at 4 p.m. and gates open at 5:30. 

Sophomore QB Cade Peterson leads a Laker offense that is averaging 48.4 points per game and 450.4 yards per game. Peterson has completed 59-of-98 passes (60.6 percent) for 889 yards and 10 TDs. In addition, Peterson has rushed for 287 yards and three touchdowns. The Laker ground game has a stable running backs, including four that are averaging between 42.4 and 65.6 rushing yards per game. Sophomore RB Tariq Reid leads the Laker running game with 328 yards (65.6 ypg) and five TDs, followed by Peterson (57.4 ypg), Aryuan Cain-Veasey (48.6 ypg) and Bryce Young-Walls (42.4). As a group they have rushed for 1,070 yards (7.4 ypc) and 15 touchdowns. Junior WR Hunter Rison leads the receiving unit with 15 catches for 281 yards and three TDs, while sophomore WR Cody Tierney has seven catches for 133 yards and two TDs. Freshman Darrell Johnson has six catches for 62 yards. 

The Laker defense is yielding 260.6 yards (91.8 rushing/168.8 passing) and 17.0 points per game. Opponents are converting just 27.0 percent (18-for-67) on third down and completing just 53.2 percent in the passing game. The GVSU defense has recorded 34 tackles for loss (-109), 11 QB sacks (-52), 45 QB hurries, 20 pass deflections, recovered six fumbles and picked off four passes. Sophomore LB Abe Swanson leads the way with 37 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss, while junior LB Damon Wesley has 26 tackles. Junior safety Antionio Strong, junior LB Brendann Brown and freshman safety Damonte McCurdy each have 21 stops. Senior DE Jake Hlava has 15 tackles, a team-high 5.0 TFL (-16) and 2.0 QB sacks (-12). Sophomore DE Colton Hyble has 14 tackles, 4.0 TFL and eight QB hurries.

THE SERIES
Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with Ferris State by a 29-20-1 margin. The Lakers have won 16-of-the-last-25 meetings between the schools. GVSU is 14-11 at Lubbers Stadium versus the Bulldogs and 15-9-1 at Top Taggart Field. An unranked GVSU team claimed a 36-17 victory over #1 Ferris State in 1996 at Lubbers Stadium. GVSU holds a 12-7 advantage when either team or both are ranked since 2001.  

LAST WEEK
#6 Grand Valley State built a 49-6 halftime lead en route to a 70-9 victory over Northwood. QB Cade Peterson was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after completing 14-of-20 passes for 251 yards and four TDs in just one half of action. WR Hunter Rison caught six passes for 106 yards and two TDs. The defense limited NU to 269 yards of total offense, including just 183 after the Timberwolves first drive. 
 
LAKERY BYTES
• The Laker defense leads the GLIAC and ranks 14th nationally in total defense per game 260.6. 

• GVSU leads the GLIAC and ranks ninth nationally in rushing yards per game,  averaging 249.0 yards per game. The Lakers are averaging 6.6 yards per carry and have rushed for 19 TDs in four games. Five Lakers have for at least two TDs, with Tariq Reid and Aryuan Cain-Veasey leading the way with five each. 

• GVSU ranks second in the GLIAC and 23rd nationally in total offense, averaging 450.4 yards per game. 

• The Lakers ranked 22nd nationally and lead the GLIAC in rushing defense per game (91.8 ypg). The GVSU defense has yielded just one rushing TD in five games.

 • The GVSU defense has forced its opponents into 23 three-and-out possessions and 46-of-52 total possessions that have not resulted in points have consisted of six plays or less. 29 drives have consisted of 10 yards or less. 

• 17 different Laker receivers have caught a pass, while seven different players have caught a TD pass.

• GVSU rushed for 640 yards and 10 TDs versus UW-La Crosse and Michigan Tech. The Lakers rushed for 320 yards and four TDs vs. UWC, followed by a 320-yard, six-TD rushing game at MTU. 

• The Lakers are yielding 91.8 yards per game rushing, 2.8 yards per carry and opponents have one rushing TD in five games. The Laker defense limited CSU-Pueblo to 29 rushing yards on 20 attempts (1.5 ypr), Michigan Tech to 82 yards on 31 carries (2.6 ypc) and Northwood to 95 yards on 34 carries.

• GVSU ranks second in the GLIAC and 15th nationally in third down percentage defense .269 (18-for-67).

• The Lakers rank second in the GLIAC and 15th nationally third down conversion at .510 (25-for-49). GVSU is converting .620 percent (18-for-29) of its 3rd down attempts in the first half, while opponents are converting 25.0 percent (9-for-36). 

• GVSU has recorded 14 drives that consisted of eight plays or more that have resulted in points. All total, the Lakers have scored on 30-of-56 drives (.535) this season. 

• GVSU has produced 44 explosive plays (20 yards or more) this season, including 14 via rush, 17 via pass. 

• GVSU has converted 21-of-22 red zone opportunities, including 19 TDs and two FGs. 

• The GVSU defense recorded 34 tackles for loss (-109), 11 QB sacks (-52), 45 QB hurries, 20 pass deflections, recovered six fumbles and picked off four passes.  

• Nineteen different defenders have recorded a tackle for loss, including a team-high 5.0 (-16) by Jake Hlava and 4.0 (-13) by Colton Hyble. 

• Grand Valley State true freshman kicker Kollin Kralapp converted 10-of-10 PATs in his first collegiate football game.
