ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State Lakers fell, 73-70, to the Davenport Panthers Tuesday (Jan. 26) night at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers fall to 4-3 on the season while Davenport improves to 2-5 with a second straight win.
Christian Negron recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds while
Jake Van Tubbergen contributed his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 boards.
Jordan Harris scored 20 points and
Isaac Gassman connected on five three-pointers in a 17-point performance. Harris also added a season-best six assists while Austin braun scored six points and dished seven dimes in his first career start.
The Lakers took an early lead, but both offenses struggled to find footing in the first half with GVSU going into the break trailing 28-24. They would score the first eight points of the second half to surge back ahead, but Davenport quickly answered with a sprint of their own to regain the advantage, which they would never relinquish. Harris had a half-court shot at the buzzer to force overtime, but it missed wide left.
The Lakers look to bounce back Saturday when they host the Wayne State Warriors at 1 PM. The game will be available on the Grand Valley Sports Network, ESPN 96.1 FM and live stats and coverage through gvsulakers.com and @GVSUBasketball on Twitter and Instagram.
