KENOSHA, Wis. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team bounced back on Saturday afternoon in a 77-54 win over Parkside at De Simone Gymnasium. The Lakers improve to 5-1 overall, while the Rangers drop to 2-4.
Emily Spitzley had team-high 20 points to lead the Lakers and freshman
Ellie Droste scored a career-high 13 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out three assists. Freshman
Hadley Miller also finished in double-figures with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Lakers trailed 5-0 early in the contest, but chipped away throughout the first quarter and held a 16-11 lead at the end of the frame. The lead would not change hands for the remainder of the game. GVSU extended their lead in the second quarter, using a 16-2 run that stretched nearly seven minutes, and brought a 35-19 advantage into the half.
In the second half, the Lakers continued to grow the lead. GVSU outscored Parkside 26-18 in the third quarter and built the largest lead of the game at 61-34 on a Spitzley three-point basket.
The Lakers will be back in action on Tuesday at 5:00 PM as they travel crosstown to take on Davenport.
