ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State Lakers men's basketball team fell, 76-63, to the Parkside Rangers Saturday (Jan. 23) afternoon at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The teams split the weekend series as the Lakers move to 4-2 on the year and Parkside improves to 3-3 for the season. The loss is the Lakers' first on their home floor in four 2021 contests.
Jake Van Tubbergen posted a season-best 24 points and five rebounds but could not keep pace with the sharp-shooting Rangers who connected on 14 three-pointers for the game. Tray Croft poured in 30 points for the Rangers to lead the way. After a tight first few minutes, the Rangers began to pull away mid-first. The Lakers responded with a 7-0 run to get within four points, but Parkside scored nine of the final 11 points of the period to open a 35-24 lead at the break.
The teams would trade blows for much of the second half, but the Lakers could never get back within a possession as every run was thwarted by three-pointers. The Lakers look to rebound Tuesday (Jan. 26) when they host the Davenport Panthers at 6:00 PM.
