ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State Lakers used a dominant defensive effort to down the Parkside Rangers, 59-42, at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena Friday (Jan. 22) afternoon. GVSU had five different players score in double figures to improve to 4-1 on the season while the Rangers drop to 2-3 in 2021.
The Lakers stymied Parkside to just 28% from the field and 5-23 from three. The Lakers, meanwhile, knocked down seven of 14 three attempts and shot 53% from the field. The Lakers, who never trailed in the game, went on a 7-0 run to end the first half with a 31-16 lead.
All five starters scored in double-digits;
Jake Van Tubbergen and
Christian Negron each scored 12 points while
Jordan Harris,
Isaac Gassman and
Deleon Brown each scored 10 points. Gassman also secured a team-high seven rebounds while Van Tubbergen added five boards, four assists and a pair of steals.
