ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team snapped Ashland's 33-game win streak, 25-game conference win streak, and 22-game road win streak on Saturday by a score of 73-68 inside the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 2-1. The official Top-25 poll (WBCA) has not been released, however Ashland was ranked #2 in the D2SIDA Top-25 poll and GVSU came in at #7. The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 3 PM.

Hannah Kulas poured in 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and recorded three steals. Senior
Qay Stanton (14 points) and junior
Emily Spitzley (11 points) also finished in double-figures for the Lakers.
GVSU jumped out to an 13-2 lead midway through the first quarter on pair of buckets from
Samantha Gehrls and Kulas, but Ashland chipped away and trimmed the Laker lead to 22-16 at the end of the frame. The Lakers grew their lead to 33-20 with 6:00 minutes left in the second quarter on a McKinley three-pointer before Ashland went on a 8-0 run in less than two minutes to make the score 33-28. GVSU would answer, going on a 9-0 run of their own and took a 42-30 lead into the half.
The Lakers scored the opening points of the third quarter but went on a seven-minute scoring drought which allowed Ashland to tie the game at 44-44 with 3:47 left in the third. GVSU entered the fourth quarter up by three and McKinley three-point gave them a six-point lead, 54-48, with 8:58 remaining in the contest. The two teams traded baskets for much of the quarter before the Lakers secured their largest lead of the quarter on a pair of free-throws by Stanton with 33 seconds left.
