GVSU Baseball defeats Findlay 12-7 on Wednesday afternoon in Florida

The Lakers have won 5 out of 6 games in the Sunshine State

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Grand Valley State baseball team bounced back from a loss yesterday with a 12-7 win over Findlay, their third win over the Oilers this week. The Lakers improve to 7-2 overall and will have tomorrow off before playing a doubleheader against Minnesota-Duluth on Friday, March 6 at the Lake Myrtle Complex.
 
GVSU trailed 3-0 after the top-half of the first inning, but got one back in the bottom half and scored four more runs in the second to take a 5-3 lead. The Lakers would add one more in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the sixth to extend the margin to 11-4.
 
Ryan Blake-Jones recorded RBI singles in both the first and second inning, while junior Jordan Chandler belted a two-run triple to right center, scoring Connor Grice and Stephen Pim to tie the contest. Anthony Cocco's RBI single up the middle in the second inning gave the Lakers a 4-3 lead. GVSU would score runs in the third and fourth inning on balks by the Findlay pitcher, before an Oiler RBI double in the fifth inning cut the Laker lead to 8-4. Junior Cacey O'Brien started the three-run sixth inning with an RBI double to right field, followed by a pair of RBI singles from Nathan Logan and Stephen Pim.
 
Senior Luke Hargis (2-0) earned the win, tossing 5.1 innings, while allowing four hits, one run, two walks, and striking out seven. Senior Jared Skubic tossed 0.2 innings of scoreless relief and junior Michael Barno threw the final 2.1 innings.
 
Logan, Blake-Jones, and Grice each had three hits, while Chandler finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
