LEBANON, Ill. – The No. 19 Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team collected their first win of the season with a dominant decision over McKendree, 20-9, on Sunday (March 1) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 1-1 on the season.
GVSU took control of the game from the start as junior
Sophie Conroy tallied a quick hat trick within the first nine minutes to help account for a 4-0 lead. Nine different Lakers scored in the first half to hold a 13-3 lead heading into the second half. Junior
Olivia Esposito also recorded a hat trick on the day.
Freshman
Kate DeYoung scored the first couple goals of her collegiate career in the second half, while Conroy found the back of the net one more time to record a game-high four goals for the day. In the 11
th minute, the GVSU lead was cut to 4-1, accounting for the closest score of the game.
The Lakers return to action Wednesday, March 4 for a road game against No. 5 Lindenwood. The Lions hold an undefeated 5-0 start on the 2020 season.
