SAINT CHARLES, Mo. – The No. 16 Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team handed No. 3 Lindenwood their first loss of the season with a 16-13 decision on Wednesday (March 4) night. The Lakers improve to 2-1 on the season.
Senior
Abbi O'Neal led the game with seven goals off eight shots on goal, followed by freshman
Molly Bursinger with four goals and
Sophie Conroy with two.
GVSU added a quick three goals in the first five minutes to jump to a 3-0 lead. The Lions would eventually fight back to tie it at seven a piece off a free position shot from Lexy Biller in the 23
rd minute. After back-and-forth goals by both teams, the score was tied at eight entering the second half.
O'Neal wasted no time after the break and reclaimed the Laker lead in the first 1:05 of the second half. The Lakers held the lead the entirety of the second half except for a three-minute period in which the game held steady, tied at 11. O'Neal and
Olivia Esposito each found the back of the net two times in the last 11 minutes to secure the GVSU win.
The Lakers have a quick turn around with a road game at Maryville on Thursday, March 5 at 12 p.m. EST. The Saints post a 2-0 record that includes wins over Oklahoma Baptist and Missouri Valley.
