The Grand Valley State men's and women's tennis teams dropped dual matches at Indianapolis Saturday. The Laker (2-1) men lost a close 4-3 match to the #12 Greyhounds, while the GVSU women (12-3) fell 6-1 to the #4 ranked team in the country. Both the Grand Valley State men and women will host Illinois-Springfield Saturday (Feb. 15) at 4 p.m. and Walsh Sunday (Feb. 16) at 8 a.m. at Premier Athletic & Tennis Club.
Men
The Laker men went 3-3 in singles action versus the Greyhounds with
Jack Geissler claiming a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 win at No. 2 single,
Ignacio Morera-Lucas winning a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 at No. 5 singles and
DJ Colantone earning a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 decision at No. 6 singles.
Jack Dausman (1-6, 2-6),
Martin Matov (3-6, 0-6) and
Sean Miller (0-6, 4-6) fell at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Indianapolis won all three doubles matches by scores of 6-1 (Matov/Dausman), 6-4 (Geissler/Rhodes) and 7-6 (Miller/Colantone)
Women
The GVSU women fell by a 6-1 score to one of the top teams in the country. Freshman
Olivia Huang claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles for the Lakers' only win. Indianapolis won the doubles point, but
Marija Leko and
Marily Canellopoulos captured a 6-4 win at No. 2 doulbes.
Vera Griva fell at No. 1 singles (1-6, 3-6), followed by
Taylor Barrett dropping a 3-6, 0-6 decision at No. 2 singles. Leko lost a 0-6, 3-6 match at No. 3 singles, Canellopoulos fell 3-6, 2-6 at No. 4 singles and
Liv Hanover fell 2-6, 0-6 at No. 5 singles.
