Lakers show strong outing at Mike Lints Alumni Open

GVSU travels to Indiana and Ohio next weekend

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State track and field teams concluded the GVSU Mike Lints Alumni Open on Saturday.  The women saw 10 Division II provisional marks, while five Lakers provisionally qualified on the men's side. 
 
In the women's mile, Natalie Graber (4:53.29), Jessica Gockley (4:56.52) and Hanna Groeber (4:57.51) accounted for a GVSU top-three sweep that included three provisional times.  Freshman Andee Kimes claimed first place in the 600m run with a finish of 1:39.12, while Molly McLaughlin ended the 800m race in 2:16.27, earning second place. 
 
The women showed a strong performance in the 3000m run, with Lynsey Amthor (2nd; 10:07.25), Madison Goen (3rd; 10:07.57) and Lucy Karpukhno (12th; 10:15.95) representing the Lakers on the track. 
 
There were numerous top-three finishes in the field events for the women.  Erika Lechner threw for a provisional mark in the shot put, landing at 14.04m and claiming first place.  Judith Essemiah (1st; 18.05m) and Anna Obi (1st; 12.04m) both earned provisional marks in the weight throw and triple jump, respectively. 
 
Also earning provisional qualifications for the women was Angelica Floyd (2nd; 5.72m) in the long jump, and Elli Kimes, (2nd; 4.00m), Kassidie Stimmel (3rd; 3.85m) and Carly Livingston (4th; 3.85m) in the pole vault. 
 
Junior Connor Schwartz took first place in the mile with a personal best time of 4:09.97, good for a provisional qualification.  John Groendyk (1:52.95; D2P) and Noah Fuerst (1:53.07) finished as the top-two in the 800m dash, with Tyler Walters (4th; 1:53.87) and Jacob Domagalski (5th; 1:56.01) following their lead.  Colin Herrmann (8:27.96), Garrett White (8:28.60) and Jesse Becker (8:33.59) finished within the top-seven in the 3000m race, while Andrew McFarland earned second place in the 600m with a time of 1:19.39. 
 
Senior Jacob Battani posted yet another strong performance in the pole vault with a 5.21m clear, earning a provisional qualification.   Hunter Harding (19.00m) and Leon White (18.82m) rounded out the Lakers' provisional qualifications and claimed the top-two spots, respectively, in the weight throw.   
 
Ryan Mount (high jump; 1.96m), Chanse Setzke (long jump; 6.87m) and Brad Warman (shot put; 16.16m) all took second place in their respective events. 
 
GVSU returns to action for a pair of meets next weekend (Feb. 7-8) in the Notre Dame Meyo Meet and Akron Invitational.
